This unrealized design proposed a town center that this affluent commuter suburb has always lacked, with a mix of shops, apartments, and offices organized around a new town green on a five-acre site two blocks from the railroad station. The various buildings were individually designed to reflect the vernacular classicism of New England, each appropriate to their uses. Flanking the green, apartment buildings were to accommodate street-level restaurants that would have spilled out onto the sidewalks, and a food hall was designed to suggest a traditional New England meeting hall topped with a clock tower.
